How many new JavaScript frameworks came out this week? How many will come out next week?
The rapid pace of the JavaScript world is both a blessing and a curse. Our ecosystem has never been livelier than it is right now, yet keeping up with it can be a daunting task.
Every day we keep hearing about updates and changes in React, Angular, Vue, Ember, Webpack, Gulp, Redux, MobX and dozens of other libraries and frameworks.
You have to walk a fine line to keep up with all the JavaScript insanity around us, without frying your brains out.
My way of achieving this is pretty simple. I subscribe to several handpicked weekly newsletters and go over them every weekend. No exceptions.
I’m surprised at how effective this method turned out to be.
So let’s get rockin’.
JavaScript Weekly
JavaScript Weekly is the undisputed king of web development newsletters.
It’s the number one resource for getting the latest JavaScript news and updates. If you’re going to subscribe to just one newsletter, JavaScript Weekly should be it.
React.js Newsletter
It shouldn’t come as no surprise to you that React is now big enough to score its own newsletter. React has exploded in popularity and is now the default option for many JavaScript developers. Yours truly included.
At least until next week 😉
Node Weekly
As you might have noticed, I’m kinda big on the the whole full stack JavaScript idea.
Well, your JavaScript stack can’t be full without Node.js. So if you want to keep up to date with all the latest Node.js news & developments, Node Weekly is just what the doctor ordered.
JSter
JSter is a high quality newsletter. It always starts with a short intro and then dives straight down to business. (the landing page is a little weird. You can subscribe clicking on the envelope at the top right corner.)
Unlike the others, this one only ships every two weeks.
Its sections include:
- Libraries
- Articles
- Guides
- Techniques
- Interviews
- Resources
- Demos
FrontEnd Focus
FrontEnd Focus is a great place to get your web technologies updates. Progressive web apps, CSS tips, WebGL and WebRTC are only a handful of the topics covered.
Notable Mentions
I’d like to wrap things up with two tech newsletters I enjoy, but aren’t directly related to JavaScript.
hackernewsletter
If you’re a Hacker News addict like me, hackernewsletter could help tame your addiction. All the links are curated by hand and I’ve found them to represent the most interesting Hacker News of the week.
Panda Weekly
Panda Weekly is a “catch all” newsletter for programmers, designers and the like. It covers top posts from Designer News, Production Hunt, Github and a few others. I like it, you should give it a try.
Is there something missing from the list? What other JavaScript newsletters do you enjoy?
